UserGuide: Writable directory

This revision is from 2009/10/03 21:48. You can Restore it.

During the installation process, you must make sure that "var" directory is writable. How to do this?

You can do this in console with command:

chmod -R 777 var

But you often don't have access to server's console. Most file and FTP managers (like Total commander) can do that too.

What does 777 mean? Basically that directory is both readable and writable for everybody. This is not actually very secure.

For better security try to set "var" directory to 775 first (writable only for some users), but its possible that this won't work. In this case use 777 which should work always (but is less secure).
